UGDC Showcases Digital Transformation Success at Eni’s “Call for Ideas” – Milano 2025:

In 2025, United Gas Derivatives Company (UGDC) proudly participated in Eni’s international “Create Value, Enhance Knowledge: Embrace the Future of Remote Collaboration” Call for Ideas event held in Milano, presenting its project titled:

“Business Intelligence System for Enhanced Remote Collaboration and Decision-Making”

The project was recognized by Eni as one of the Top 4 initiatives among 8 participating submissions, highlighting UGDC’s commitment to operational excellence, digital transformation, and sustainable value creation.

UGDC’s initiative addressed a critical operational challenge across its geographically distributed operations in Cairo, Port Said, and Damietta. With the Port Said NGL Plant relying on continuous monitoring of multiple interdependent process variables, the need for faster and more reliable operational insight became increasingly essential.

Through the application of the Lean Six Sigma DMAIC methodology, supported by the Eni Continuous Improvement team, UGDC developed a structured and scalable digital solution designed to transform operational monitoring and strengthen remote collaboration between sites.

The project introduced a centralized Business Intelligence (BI) dashboard capable of integrating and visualizing key operational data streams in real time. This significantly reduced manual data collection and processing efforts by approximately 75%, enabling engineers and decision-makers to access faster, clearer, and more reliable operational insights.

A primary focus of the initiative was the Cold Box equipment—one of the plant’s most critical process assets, where failures can potentially result in complete plant shutdown. The new digital monitoring approach enhanced early anomaly detection, improved excursion management, reduced operational fatigue, and strengthened proactive intervention capabilities.

As a result of ongoing analytical and optimization efforts, UGDC successfully extended the Cold Box service life from three to six years, generating an estimated cost avoidance of approximately $ 3.6 million for every additional year of operation, excluding avoided production loss costs.

The project also strengthened:

  • Cross-functional collaboration between different operational sites.
  • Timely and data-driven decision-making capabilities.
  • Operational reliability and process stability.
  • Situational awareness and risk-based operational management.
  • Long-term scalability for future digital transformation initiatives.

Building on this success, UGDC plans to further expand the system beginning in 2026 to include additional critical plant assets, alongside the integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven predictive analytics to further enhance forecasting accuracy, equipment reliability, and operational excellence.

This achievement reflects UGDC’s continuous dedication to innovation, efficiency, and creating sustainable value for both people and business.
