THE QHSE & ROAD TRAFFIC SAFETY MANAGEMENT POLICY:

The QHSE & RTS Policy of United Gas Derivatives Company (UGDC) is to achieve and maintain full customer satisfaction and provide a safe and healthful working environment and fruitful competitiveness on Gas Derivatives market. The strategic objectives include:

  • Providing our customers with the right products and services that meet their requirements and expectations.
  • Ensuring safety, health and welfare of our employees.
  • Commit to continual improvement and pollution prevention by implementing well-developed action plans to achieve set of objectives and targets.
  • Commitment to abide by relevant occupational health, safety, RTS and environment protection compliance obligations.
  • Identifying, analyzing and managing significant occupational health, safety and environmental risks and decide on required elimination and/or control measures.
  • Preserving the natural resources via waste recycling systems and by energy and water consumption optimization.
  • Adhering to UGDC’s QHSE & RTS Policy which is “no accidents, no harm to people and no damage to the environment “.
An organizational structure that guarantees the availability and adequacy of the human resources needed to achieve objectives and targets.
Monitoring system for the cost impact of poor quality and business efficiency.
Reviewing the policy periodically at the management review

TOOLS SUPPORTING THE QHSE POLICY ARE:

QHSE Management System, which conforms to the international standards ISO 9001, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, & ISO 39001 governs the main business processes related to:

  • Identification of customer needs
  • Strategic planning
  • Effective supplier and contractor management; marketing and after sales services…. etc.
  • Training employees at all levels to work safely and to understand the nature of any hazard or environmental aspects and the reasons for preventative measures.
  • Initiating and operating safe working procedures and monitoring all working areas, processes and methods, with the objective of continual improvement of performance.
  • Management of preventive and corrective actions.

The Energy Management Policy

Commitment

  • We UGDC commit to a long-term reduction of our energy consumption and to the improvement of our energy efficiency by using energy management system (EnMS.)
  • Operate our energy management system in accordance with ISO 50001 requirements. 
  • UGDC commit to comply with all applicable legal requirements and other requirements which are related to energy use, consumption and efficiency. 
  • We commit to increase our percentage of renewable energy usage in long term and minimizing waste and promoting recycling
  • Purchasing energy-efficient products, services, and supports design activities that consider energy performance improvement. 
  • We will use energy performance indicators (EnPIs) to evaluate our progress and results on a regular and periodic basis.
  • We commit to continual improvement in energy performance by implementing objectives and targets with well-developed action plans
  • Make available adequate resources and information to achieve our energy objectives and targets. 
  • Communicate this policy to all our staff, ensure they understand the energy impacts of their job 
  • Regular reporting of the facilities’ activities and progress toward meeting its resource use and environmental impact goals
  • Avail specialized training and awareness sessions for our staff to increase the responsible use of energy.
  • We are committed to supporting Egypt initiatives effort to increase energy efficiency.
  • This policy is reviewed periodically 

Strategy

UGDC Company’s objectives and EnPIs shall be related to this policy and considering the following: 

  • Increase UGDC employees and contractors’ personnel culture and awareness about the potential catastrophic impact of improper energy usage, which is not restricted to work area but extends to our homes and more globally to the country  
  • Provide the best possible environment for all employees at our facilities, while simultaneously maximizing energy performance 
  • Reduce operating expenses and improve asset values by actively and responsibly managing energy consumption 
  • Demonstrate commitment to our community and leadership in our work environment, by reducing pollution associated with energy use.

THE PROCESS SAFETY MANAGEMENT POLICY

UGDC is committed to continuously improving process safety performance. UGDC recognizes that the nature of its activities may give rise to Major Hazards to employees, contractors, visitors, members of the public and the environment. UGDC, therefore, have obligations to all these stakeholders to reduce the risks associated with such hazards to levels as low as reasonably practicable. This policy outlines UGDC’s expectations for the management of process safety at our facilities. To achieve this, UGDC will:

  • Maintain senior management leadership commitment to improving process safety management.
  • Visibly demonstrate top management commitment through site visits and open dialogues about process safety.
  • Encourage and recognize speak up culture on process safety-related issues without fear of retaliation.
  • Not to compromise our focus on safety through creating a sense of chronic unease environment that replaces complacency.
  • Maintain a culture of care where we help each other to identify unsafe situations.
  • Ensure that everyone understands how work actually happens and check that it is being done safely and reliably.
  • Ensure adequate resources are available to drive process safety performance.
  • Comply with the local Process Safety Management regulations, and align with international Process Safety requirements.
  • Learn from incidents and respond in a constructive way
  • Review incidents across the oil and gas industry and share the learnings with the workforce.
  • Enhance the engineering and administrative safeguards to maintain safe and reliable operations.
  • Set and track process safety leading and lagging performance indicators.
  • Develop process safety training program to ensure knowledge transfer and learning of good practices.
  • Be prepared for foreseeable emergencies by maintaining and testing emergency response procedures on regular basis.
  • Recognize process changes and ensure that they are appropriately documented, reviewed, approved, and communicated through a proper MOC or PMR.
  • Maintain employees’ commitment to continuously improve process safety performance.
